Jeremiah 19 (LBA)

1 Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Va, achète-toi une cruche de potier ; [prends avec toi] des anciens du peuple et des anciens d'entre les sacrificateurs ; 2 sors vers la vallée du fils de Hinnom, qui est à l'entrée de la porte Harsouth, et là, crie les paroles que je te dirai. 3 Tu diras : Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel, rois de Juda et habitants de Jérusalem ! Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël. Voici, j'amène sur ce lieu un malheur tel, que les oreilles tinteront à quiconque en entendra parler, 4 parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné, ils ont aliéné ce lieu, ils y ont encensé des dieux étrangers qu'ils ne connaissaient point, eux, leurs pères et les rois de Juda ; et ils ont rempli ce lieu du sang des innocents ; 5 ils ont élevé les hauts lieux de Baal pour brûler leurs fils au feu en holocauste à Baal, choses que je n'avais point commandées ni dites, et qui n'étaient point montées dans ma pensée. 6 C'est pourquoi, voici, des jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, où l'on n'appellera plus ce lieu-ci Thopheth, ni vallée du fils de Hinnom, mais vallée de la tuerie. 7 Je viderai le conseil de Juda et de Jérusalem en ce lieu-ci ; je les ferai tomber par l'épée devant leurs ennemis, et par la main de ceux qui recherchent leur vie, et je donnerai leurs cadavres en pâture aux oiseaux des cieux et aux bêtes de la terre, 8 et je ferai de cette ville un objet de stupeur et de dérision ; tout passant sera stupéfait et rira de toutes ses meurtrissures ; 9 et je leur ferai manger la chair de leurs fils et la chair de leurs filles ; ils mangeront la chair l'un de l'autre, dans la détresse et dans les étreintes dont les étreindront leurs ennemis et ceux qui en veulent à leur vie. 10 Puis tu briseras la cruche sous les yeux des hommes venus avec toi, 11 et tu leur diras : Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées : Je briserai ce peuple et cette ville, comme on brise le vase de potier, qui ne peut plus être réparé ; et l'on enterrera à Thopheth faute de place pour enterrer ; 12 voilà ce que je ferai à ce lieu, dit l'Eternel, et à ses habitants, en rendant cette ville telle que Thopheth. 13 Les maisons de Jérusalem et les maisons des rois de Juda seront telles que cet endroit de Thopheth, souillées ; oui, toutes les maisons sur les toits desquelles on a offert de l'encens à toute l'armée des cieux et versé des libations à des dieux étrangers. 14 Jérémie revint de Thopheth, où l'Eternel l'avait envoyé pour prophétiser, et il se plaça dans le parvis de la maison de l'Eternel et dit à tout le peuple : 15 Ainsi a dit l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : Voici, j'amène contre cette ville et sur toutes les villes de son ressort tous les malheurs que j'ai annoncés contre elle ; car ils ont roidi leur cou pour ne point obéir à mes paroles.
