Você está se comportando de uma forma condizente com a verdadeira mensagem de Deus. 4 Fico muito contente ao ouvir que as pessoas—que conduzi a Cristo/que são meus filhos espirituais—estão se comportando dessa maneira! 5 Caro amigo, você está servindo lealmente/fielmente a Jesus sempre que faz algo para ajudar os irmãos crentes que viajam, mesmo que não os conheça. 6 Alguns deles relataram à congregação daqui como você os ama. Você deve continuar ajudando tais pessoas nas suas viagens, de uma forma que seja do agrado de Deus. 7 Quando aqueles irmãos crentes saíram para falar às pessoas sobre Jesus [MTY], aqueles que não creem em Cristo não lhes deram nada para seu sustento. 8 Por isso nós que cremos em Cristo devemos dar comida e dinheiro a tais pessoas, para que possamos ajudá-lasenquanto ensinam aos outros a verdadeira mensagem de Deus. 9 Escrevi uma carta aos membros da congregação, mandando que ajudassem esses obreiros cristãos. Contudo, Diótrefes não—acata minha autoridade/presta atenção àquilo que escrevo—, pois ele deseja ser o líder da congregação. 10 Por isso, ao chegar lá exporei publicamente aquilo que ele faz: Ele conta às outras pessoas bobagens malignas sobre nós para nos prejudicar pelo que diz e não se contenta apenas com inventar coisas prejudiciais. Ele mesmo não somente recusa acolher os irmãos crentes visitantes, como também impede os outros de acolhê-los, expulsando essas pessoas da congregação. 11 Caro amigo, não imite um mau exemplo desse tipo. Pelo contrário, continue imitando os bons. Lembre-se que aqueles que praticam boas obras—pertencem realmente a Deus/são filhos espirituais de Deus—, mas aqueles que fazem o que é iníquo—não chegaram ainda a conhecer a/não têm um relacionamento com—Deus. 12 Todos os crentes que conhecem o Demétrio declaram que ele é uma boa pessoa. O fato de ele se comportar de uma maneira condizente com a verdadeira mensagem de Deus comprova que ele é uma boa pessoa, e nós também declaramos que ele é uma boa pessoa. Vocês sabem que aquilo que dizemos sobre ele é verdade. Portanto será bom você acolher e ajudá-lo.
