1 Visdommen kalder, hvem vil høre?Indsigten råber sit budskab ud. 2 Den står på højdepunkter langs vejen,stiller sig op ved befærdede gadehjørner. 3 Ved byens porte og på de åbne pladserkan dens klare stemme høres: 4 „Jeg kalder på alle mennesker,lyt til mit budskab, hver og én. 5 Forstå dog, hvad visdom er,tag imod lidt sund fornuft. 6 Jeg har vigtige ting at fortælle jer,jeg siger, hvad der er ret og rigtigt. 7 Min mund taler altid sandt,jeg hader alt, hvad der er ondt. 8 Alt, hvad jeg siger, er sandt og godt,der er intet falsk eller forkert i det. 9 Mine ord er indlysende for de forstandige,ligetil for dem, der har en smule indsigt.” 10 Sæt større pris på min vejledning end på sølv,for min undervisning er mere værd end guld. 11 At eje visdom er vigtigere end at eje juveler,intet kan sammenlignes med den. 12 „Jeg, Visdom, har dømmekraftforuden indsigt og sund fornuft. 13 Gudsfrygt indebærer at hade det onde.Jeg hader hovmod og indbildskhed,løgn og ondsindet sladder. 14 Følg mine gode råd og få fremgang,indsigt og dømmekraft får du hos mig. 15 Jeg hjælper konger til at regere retfærdigtog lovgivere til at udstede gode love. 16 Jeg hjælper guvernører til at træffe de rigtige valg,alle jordens dommere har brug for mig. 17 Jeg kommer til dem, der vil tage imod mig.De, som oprigtigt søger mig, finder mig. 18 Jeg giver dem rigdom og ære,vedvarende værdier og gode normer. 19 Den gave, jeg giver, er bedre end det fineste guld,den er mere værd end det fornemste sølv. 20 Jeg følger sandhedens stier,vandrer på hæderlighedens veje. 21 De, der følger mig, lider ingen nød,for jeg fylder deres forrådshuse. 22 Herren skabte mig i begyndelsenfør resten af hans skaberværk. 23 Jeg har min oprindelse i evigheden,før verdens grundvold blev lagt. 24 Jeg blev dannet før havets dyb,før kilderne og floderne var til. 25 Jeg var der, før bjergene blev dannet,og højene blev skabt, 26 før Gud havde frembragt landjorden med dens marker,før det første stykke jord kom til syne. 27 Da Gud udspændte himlens hvælving,da han lagde jordens flade på urdybet, 28 da han anbragte skyerne over jordenog åbnede kilderne under jorden, 29 da han med sit ord satte en grænse for havet,da han lagde jordens grundvold fast, 30 da var jeg ved hans side som hans arkitekt.Jeg glædede mig dag for dag,frydede mig sammen med ham, 31 jublede ved at se den vide jord,ved at se menneskene blive skabt.” 32 Hør derfor godt efter, min søn,for du bliver lykkelig ved at følge mit råd. 33 Lyt til mig, så du kan få visdom.Ignorer ikke visdommen, når den siger: 34 „Velsignede er de, der lytter til mig,de, der venter ved min dør dag efter dag. 35 De, der tager imod mig, får et godt liv,for de opnår Guds velvilje. 36 De, der forkaster mig, skader sig selv.Siger de nej til mig, siger de ja til døden.”
