La désolation et la violence sont devant moi ; il y a des querelles, et la discorde s'élève. 4 Aussi la loi est paralysée et la justice n'arrive plus à la lumière. Car le méchant circonvient le juste ; c'est pourquoi le droit sort faussé. 5 Regardez parmi les nations et voyez ; soyez étonnés, stupéfaits, car je vais faire en vos jours une œuvre que vous ne croiriez point si on vous la racontait. 6 Car je vais faire lever les Chaldéens, peuple rude et impétueux, qui s'avance au large sur la terre pour s'emparer de demeures qui ne sont point à lui. 7 Il est terrible et formidable ; c'est lui-même qui fera son droit et sa grandeur 8 Ses chevaux sont plus légers que les léopards, plus agiles que les loups du soir ; ses cavaliers, chevauchent fièrement, ses cavaliers viendront de loin, ils voleront comme un aigle qui fond sur sa proie. 9 Toute la troupe viendra pour piller ; le front de leurs lignes se porte en avant ; ils amassent les captifs comme du sable. 10 Il se moquera des rois, et les princes seront sa risée ; il se rira de tout retranchement, il entasse de la poussière et le prend. 11 Puis il glisse comme le vent, il passe outre, et il est chargé de crimes. Sa force à lui, voilà son Dieu ! 12 N'es-tu pas de tout temps l'Eternel, mon Dieu, mon Saint ? Nous ne mourrons pas. Eternel, tu l'as établi pour exécuter ton jugement ; mon Rocher, tu l'as affermi pour châtier ! 13 Tes yeux sont trop purs pour voir le mal et tu ne peux contempler l'iniquité. Pourquoi regardes-tu les perfides, gardant le silence quand le méchant dévore un plus juste que lui ? 14 Tu traites donc les hommes comme les poissons de la mer, comme les reptiles qui n'ont pas de chef ! 15 Tous, il les prend à l'hameçon, les tire avec son filet, les ramasse dans ses rets. C'est pourquoi il est dans la joie et jubile. 16 C'est pourquoi il sacrifie à son filet et offre de l'encens à ses rets ; car par eux sa portion est grasse et sa nourriture succulente. 17 Ne cessera-t-il donc pas de vider son filet, égorgeant des nations impitoyablement ?
