Psalms 44 (LBA)
1 Au maître chantre. Des fils de Koré. Méditation. O Dieu, de nos oreilles nous l'avons entendu, Nos pères nous l'ont raconté : Tu as accompli une œuvre en leurs jours, Aux jours d'autrefois. 2 De ta main, tu chassas des nations, et eux, tu les as plantés ; Tu détruisis des peuples pour leur faire place, 3 Car ce n'est pas avec leur épée qu'ils se sont emparés du pays ; Leur bras ne les a point sauvés ; Non, c'est ta droite, c'est ton bras, c'est la lumière de ta face, Parce que tu les aimais. 4 Toi, ô Dieu, tu es mon roi : Ordonne la délivrance de Jacob ! 5 Par toi nous renverserons nos ennemis, Avec ton nom nous écraserons ceux qui s'élèvent contre nous. 6 Car ce n'est point en mon arc que je me confie, Ce n'est point mon épée qui me sauvera ; 7 Mais c'est toi qui nous sauves de nos ennemis, Et qui couvres de confusion ceux qui nous haïssent. 8 En Dieu nous nous glorifierons sans cesse, Et nous célébrerons à jamais ton nom. (Jeu d'instruments.) 9 Cependant tu nous as repoussés, tu nous as couverts de honte, Tu as cessé de sortir avec nos armées, 10 Tu nous as fait reculer devant l'ennemi, Et ceux qui nous haïssent emportent leur butin. 11 Tu nous a livrés comme des brebis à dévorer, Et parmi les nations tu nous as dispersés ; 12 Tu vends ton peuple pour rien, Tu le mets à vil prix. 13 Tu fais de nous un proverbe pour nos voisins, La risée et le jouet de nos alentours ; 14 Tu fais de nous la fable des nations ; A notre nom, les peuples hochent la tête. 15 Mon opprobre est toujours devant moi, Et la confusion me couvre le visage, 16 A la voix de celui qui m'insulte et m'outrage, A la vue de l'ennemi et du vindicatif. 17 Tout cela nous arrive sans que nous t'ayons oublié, Sans que nous ayons violé ton alliance. 18 Notre cœur ne s'est point détourné, Nos pas ne se sont point écartés de ton sentier, 19 Pour que tu nous aies refoulés là où demeurent les chacals Et couverts de l'ombre de la mort. 20 Si nous avions oublié le nom de notre Dieu, Et étendu nos mains vers un Dieu étranger, 21 Dieu n'en serait-il pas informé, Lui qui connaît les secrets du cœur ? 22 Mais c'est à cause de toi que nous sommes égorgés tous les jours, Qu'on nous regarde comme des brebis de boucherie. 23 Réveille-toi ! Pourquoi dors-tu, Seigneur ? Réveille-toi ! Ne nous repousse pas à jamais ! 24 Pourquoi caches-tu ta face ? Pourquoi oublies-tu notre misère et notre oppression ? 25 Car notre âme est abattue dans la poussière, Notre corps est attaché à la terre. 26 Lève-toi ! Viens-nous en aide ! Délivre nous à cause de ta bonté !
