1 O presbítero à senhora eleita e a seus filhos, a quem amo por causa da verdade, e não somente eu mas também todos os que conhecem a verdade, 2 por causa da verdade que permanece em nós e que estará conosco para sempre: 3 graça, misericórdia e paz da parte de Deus Pai e de Jesus Cristo, o Filho do Pai, serão conosco em verdade e amor. 4 Alegro-me muito por haver encontrado alguns de teus filhos andando na verdade, segundo o mandamento que recebemos do Pai. 5 E agora, senhora, peço-te, não como se escrevesse um novo mandamento, mas o mesmo que tivemos desde o princípio: amemos uns aos outros. 6 E este é o amor: que vivamos segundo seus mandamentos. Esse é o mandamento, como já desde o princípio ouvistes, para que nele andeis. 7 Porque muitos enganadores já saíram pelo mundo, os quais não declaram que Jesus Cristo veio em corpo. Quem assim procede é o enganador e o anticristo. 8 Tende cuidado de vós mesmos para não destruirdes o fruto do nosso trabalho, mas para que, pelo contrário, venhais a receber plena recompensa. 9 Todo que vai além do ensino de Cristo e não permanece nele, não tem Deus. Quem permanece no ensino, esse tem tanto o Pai como o Filho. 10 Se alguém vem vos visitar e não traz esse ensino, não o recebais em casa, nem o cumprimenteis. 11 Pois quem o cumprimenta participa de suas obras más. 12 Embora eu tenha muitas coisas para vos escrever, não o quis fazer com papel e tinta. Mas espero visitar-vos e falar face a face, para que nossa alegria seja completa. 13 Os filhos da tua irmã eleita enviam saudações.
