1 Quando tento sarar Israel,se descobre a iniquidade de Efraime a maldade de Samaria,porque praticam a falsidade;ladrões invadem as casase bandos assaltam nas ruas. 2 Não se dão conta de queeu me lembro de todasas suas maldades.Agora estão rodeadospelas suas más ações,que estão sempre diante de mim. 3 Alegram o reicom as suas maldades,e os príncipes,com as suas mentiras. 4 Todos eles são adúlteros.São semelhantes ao fornoaceso pelo padeiro,que não precisa atiçar o fogodesde que sovou a massaaté que seja levedada. 5 No dia da festa do nosso rei,os príncipes adoeceramde tanto beber vinho,e o rei estendeu a mãoaos zombadores. 6 Enquanto estão à espreita,preparam o coraçãocomo um forno:durante a noiteo seu furor se abranda,mas, pela manhã, queimacomo um fogo abrasador. 7 Todos eles são quentescomo um fornoe consomem os seus juízes.Todos os seus reis caem,mas não há ninguém entre elesque me invoque.” 8 “Efraim se mistura com os povose é um pão que não foi viradona hora de assar. 9 Estrangeiros sugamas suas forças,mas ele não percebe;cabelos brancosse espalham pela cabeça,mas ele não o sabe. 10 A arrogância de Israelabertamente dá testemunhocontra eles,mas eles não voltampara o SENHOR, seu Deus,nem o buscam em tudo isso.” 11 “Porque Efraim é comouma pomba ingênua,sem entendimento:chamam o Egitoe se voltam para a Assíria. 12 Quando forem,estenderei a minha rede sobre elese farei com que desçamcomo as aves do céu.Eu os castigarei de acordocom o que ouviramna sua congregação. 13 — Ai deles!Porque fugiram de mim.Destruição sobre eles,porque se rebelaramcontra mim!Eu os remiria,mas eles falam mentirascontra mim.” 14 “Não clamam a mim de coração,mas dão uivos nas suas camas.Eles se ajuntam para o trigoe para o vinho,mas se rebelam contra mim. 15 Eu treinei e fortalecios seus braços,mas eles planejamo mal contra mim. 16 Eles voltam,mas não para o Altíssimo.Fizeram-secomo um arco defeituoso.Os seus príncipesserão mortos à espada,por causa da insolênciada sua língua.Serão motivo de zombariana terra do Egito.”
