1 Provérbios de Salomão,filho de Davi, rei de Israel, 2 para aprender a sabedoriae o ensino;para entender as palavrasde inteligência; 3 para obter o ensinodo bom proceder,a justiça, o juízo e a equidade; 4 para dar prudência aos simplese conhecimento e discernimentoaos jovens. 5 Que o sábio ouçae cresça em prudência;e que o instruído adquirahabilidade 6 para entender provérbiose parábolas,as palavras e os enigmasdos sábios. 7 O temor do SENHORé o princípio do saber,mas os insensatos desprezama sabedoria e o ensino. 8 Meu filho, ouça o ensinode seu paie não despreze a instruçãode sua mãe. 9 Porque serão um diademade graça para a sua cabeçae colares para o seu pescoço. 10 Meu filho, se os pecadoresquiserem seduzir você,não consinta. 11 Talvez eles digam:“Venha conosco!Vamos preparar uma emboscadapara matar alguém;vamos espreitar os inocentes,ainda que sem motivo. 12 Vamos engoli-los vivos,como o mundo dos mortos,e inteiros, comoos que descem ao abismo. 13 Acharemos todo tipode bens preciosos;encheremos a nossa casade despojos. 14 Junte-se a nós!Teremos todos uma só bolsa.” 15 Meu filho, não se ponhaa caminho com eles;fique com os seus péslonge das suas veredas! 16 Porque os pés delescorrem para o male se apressam a derramar sangue. 17 Pois em vão se estende a redese a ave estiver olhando; 18 mas estes armam emboscadascontra o seu próprio sanguee ficam à espreitacontra a própria vida. 19 Este é o fim de todo ganancioso;e este espírito de ganânciatira a vida de quem o possui. 20 A Sabedoria grita nas ruas;nas praças, levanta a sua voz. 21 Do alto das muralhas clama,à entrada dos portõese nas cidadesprofere as suas palavras: 22 “Até quando vocês, ingênuos,amarão a ingenuidade?E vocês, zombadores, até quandoterão prazer na zombaria?E vocês, tolos, até quandoodiarão o conhecimento? 23 Deem ouvidosà minha repreensão;eis que derramareio meu espírito sobre vocêse lhes darei a conheceras minhas palavras. 24 Mas porque clamei,e vocês se recusaram a ouvir;porque estendi a minha mão,e não houve quem atendesse; 25 — pelo contrário, rejeitaramtodo o meu conselhoe não quiserama minha repreensão — 26 também eu darei risadada desgraça de vocês;ficarei zombandoquando chegar o terror, 27 quando o terror chegarcomo a tormenta,quando a calamidade chegarcomo o redemoinho,quando lhes sobrevieremo aperto e a angústia. 28 Então eles me invocarão,mas eu não responderei;sairão à minha procura,porém não me encontrarão. 29 Porque odiaram o conhecimentoe não preferiramo temor do SENHOR; 30 não quiseram o meu conselhoe desprezaramtoda a minha repreensão. 31 Portanto, comerão do frutoda sua condutae dos seus próprios conselhosse fartarão. 32 Os ingênuos são mortosporque se desviamda sabedoria;os tolos são destruídospor estarem satisfeitosconsigo mesmos. 33 Mas o que me der ouvidoshabitará seguro,tranquilo e sem temor do mal.”
