1 Paulo, apóstolo de Cristo Jesus pela vontade de Deus, segundo a promessa da vida que está em Cristo Jesus, 2 a Timóteo, filho amado: Graça, misericórdia e paz da parte de Deus Pai e de Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor. 3 Dou graças a Deus, a quem sirvo com consciência limpa, assim como serviram os meus antepassados, ao mencionar-te sempre em minhas súplicas noite e dia. 4 Recordo-me das tuas lágrimas e desejo muito te ver, para encher-me de alegria. 5 Também recordo a fé sincera que há em ti, que primeiro habitou em tua avó Loide e em tua mãe Eunice, e estou certo de que também habita em ti. 6 Por essa razão, lembro-te de que despertes o dom de Deus que há em ti mediante a imposição das minhas mãos. 7 Porque Deus não nos deu espírito de covardia, mas de poder, de amor e de moderação. 8 Portanto, não te envergonhes do testemunho de nosso Senhor nem de mim, prisioneiro dele; pelo contrário, participa comigo dos sofrimentos do evangelho segundo o poder de Deus. 9 Ele nos salvou e nos chamou com uma santa vocação, não por causa das nossas obras, mas devido ao seu propósito e à graça que nos foi concedida em Cristo Jesus antes dos tempos eternos, 10 e que agora se manifestou pelo aparecimento de nosso Salvador Cristo Jesus, que destruiu a morte e trouxe à luz a vida e a imortalidade pelo evangelho, 11 do qual fui constituído pregador, apóstolo e mestre. 12 Por essa razão sofro também essas coisas, mas não me envergonho; porque eu sei em quem tenho crido e estou certo de que ele é poderoso para guardar o meu tesouro até aquele dia. 13 Preserva o modelo das sãs palavras que de mim ouviste na fé e no amor que estão em Cristo Jesus; 14 guarda o bom tesouro com o auxílio do Espírito Santo, que habita em nós. 15 Bem sabes que todos os que estão na Ásia me abandonaram, entre eles Fígelo e Hermógenes. 16 O Senhor conceda misericórdia à casa de Onesíforo, porque muitas vezes ele me trouxe ânimo e não se envergonhou de eu estar na prisão; 17 pelo contrário, quando chegou a Roma, procurou-me com persistência e me encontrou. 18 O Senhor lhe conceda que naquele dia obtenha misericórdia diante do Senhor. E bem sabes quantos serviços ele me prestou em Éfeso.
