Umuntu wonke othandayo uzelwe ngoNkulunkulu njalo uyamazi uNkulunkulu. 8 Lowo ongathandiyo kamazi uNkulunkulu, ngoba uNkulunkulu uluthando. 9 UNkulunkulu walubonakalisa kanje uthando lwakhe kithi: Wathumela emhlabeni iNdodana yakhe eyiyo yodwa ukuba siphile ngayo. 10 Lolu luthando: kungayisikuthi sasimthanda uNkulunkulu kodwa ukuthi yena wasithanda wathumela iNdodana yakhe njengomhlatshelo wenhlawulo yezono zethu. 11 Bangane abathandekayo, njengoba uNkulunkulu wasithanda kangaka, lathi kumele sithandane. 12 Kakho owake wabona uNkulunkulu; kodwa nxa sithandana, uNkulunkulu uhlala kithi lothando lwakhe luyapheleliswa kithi. 13 Sikwazi ngalokhu ukuthi sihlala kuye laye uhlala kithi ngoba usinike okukaMoya wakhe. 14 Sibonile njalo siyafakaza ukuthi uBaba uyithumele iNdodana yakhe ukuba ibe nguMsindisi womhlaba. 15 Nxa umuntu evuma ukuthi uJesu uyiNdodana kaNkulunkulu, uNkulunkulu uhlala kuye laye kuNkulunkulu. 16 Ngakho siyazi njalo sithembe uthando uNkulunkulu alalo kithi.UNkulunkulu uluthando. Ohlala ethandweni, uhlala kuNkulunkulu, loNkulunkulu kuye. 17 Uthando luyapheleliswa kithi ukuze sibe lesibindi ngosuku lokwahlulelwa, ngoba kulumhlaba lathi sinjengaye. 18 Ethandweni akulakwesaba. Uthando olupheleleyo luyaxotsha ukwesaba, ngoba ukwesaba kukhumbuza isijeziso. Umuntu owesabayo kapheleliswa ethandweni. 19 Siyathanda ngoba yena wasithanda kuqala. 20 Nxa umuntu esithi, “Mina ngiyamthanda uNkulunkulu,” kodwa ezonda umfowabo, ulamanga. Ngoba umuntu ongamthandiyo umfowabo ambonayo, angeke amthande uNkulunkulu angakaze ambone. 21 Njalo wasinika umlayo lo: Lowo othanda uNkulunkulu kumele athande lomfowabo.
