1 Je suis venu à mon jardin, ô ma sœur, [ma] fiancée ; je cueille ma myrrhe avec mon baume, je mange mon rayon de miel, je bois mon vin avec mon lait : mangez, amis ; buvez et enivrez-vous d'amour ! 2 Je suis endormie, mais mon cœur veille... Voix de mon bien-aimé qui frappe : Ouvre-moi, ma sœur, mon amie, ma colombe, ma parfaite ! Car ma tête est pleine de rosée, et mes boucles des gouttes de la nuit. 3 J'ai enlevé ma tunique ; comment la remettrais-je ? J'ai lavé mes pieds ; comment les salirais-je ?... 4 Mon bien-aimé a passé sa main par une ouverture, et mes entrailles se sont émues pour lui. 5 Je me suis levée pour ouvrir à mon bien-aimé, et de mes mains dégouttait la myrrhe, de mes doigts la myrrhe liquide sur la poignée du verrou. 6 J'ai ouvert à mon bien-aimé ; mais mon bien-aimé était parti, avait disparu. Je l'ai cherché et ne l'ai pas trouvé ; je l'ai appelé, et il ne m'a point répondu. 7 Les gardes qui font la ronde dans la ville m'ont rencontrée ; ils m'ont frappée, ils m'ont blessée, ils m'ont enlevé ma mantille, les gardes des murs ! 8 Je vous en conjure, filles de Jérusalem, si vous trouvez mon bien-aimé, que lui annoncerez-vous ? Que je suis malade d'amour. 9 Qu'a donc ton bien-aimé de plus qu'un autre, ô la plus belle des femmes ? Qu'a donc ton bien-aimé de plus qu'un autre, pour que tu nous conjures ainsi ? 10 Mon bien-aimé est brillant et vermeil, il se distingue entre dix mille. 11 Sa tête est de l'or pur ; ses boucles sont des rameaux pendants, noires comme le corbeau. 12 Ses yeux sont comme des colombes au bord de ruisseaux d'eau, se baignant dans le lait, bien enchâssés. 13 Ses joues sont comme un parterre d'aromates, des terrasses de plantes odorantes. Ses lèvres sont des lis qui distillent de la myrrhe liquide. 14 Ses mains sont des cylindres d'or garnis de tharsis ; son corps est un ouvrage d'ivoire, émaillé de saphirs. 15 Ses jambes sont des colonnes de marbre blanc reposant sur des bases d'or. Son aspect est comme le Liban, distingué comme les cèdres. 16 Sa bouche respire la douceur, et toute sa personne est pleine de charme. Tel est mon bien-aimé, et tel est mon ami, filles de Jérusalem !
